Julie Ellison is an artist living in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

She first encountered ceramics in high school, where she took a class and got hooked immediately. There was something about the process of taking raw clay and turning it into a finished product, with the added spice of never being 100% sure what you're going to get after a glaze firing.

She went on to study ceramic sculpture (and photojournalism) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and has since taken pottery classes, joined a community studio, and now has a small pottery studio in her garage—talk about a dream come true!

As a rock climber, writer, photographer, and filmmaker who loves the outdoors, Julie draws her inspiration from the natural world around her. Rivers carving through ancient valleys, a vein of shiny quartz shooting through otherwise dull stone, the changing light of a winter sunset. She aims to capture the essence of these magical things and infuse it into items we use every day.

Julie lives with her husband, daughter, and 2 dogs. She loves coffee, food, and avoiding social media as much as possible. Becoming a mother has given Julie even more appreciation for handmade, functional art that can be handed down through generations. She strives to make one-of-a-kind items that pottery collectors will be proud to call family heirlooms!
